Oak Moths

--

Strands of silk float through the air underneath a canopy of oak trees…strands that only came into focus when I adjusted my gaze.

I stand there watching a meteor shower in May. I am in the middle of it.

These are the strands that gather on my face when I move through the forest each morning while the sun rises.

These are the strands I see waving in the air like iridescent streamers from the tip of my dog’s tail as he runs next to me.

These are the strands that that in two weeks will disappear as the worms finish their descent to the ground to begin their transformation into moths.
